To deal with the baby formula shortage, millions of bottles are headed to the U.S. as part of Operation Fly Formula. United Airlines and FedEx are joining the effort, donating cargo space to ship formula from Europe. On Wednesday, President Joe Biden met with administration officials and representatives from major infant-formula manufacturers to discuss progress in restoring supplies and accelerating imports through Operation Fly Formula. A plan to airlift in 4.6 million bottles of formula from Australia starting June 9 and another 3.7 million bottles from the U.K. was announced.
“This is a crisis we are addressing with an all-of-government approach,” said Dr. Dara Kass, regional director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in an interview with NJ Spotlight News. As well as detailing efforts to ramp up production in the U.S. and alleviate the shortage via Operation Fly Formula, Kass urged parents to “not keep more formula in your house than you need.”
