Equal Pay Day is Tuesday, March 15, the date that symbolizes how far into the new year women must work to catch up with what men earned in the previous year, according to the National Committee on Pay Equity. What progress, if any, is being made on equal pay for women in New Jersey?

We discuss the issue with Dr. Sarah Small, an economist at the Rutgers Center for Women and Work, who described progress on the issue as “a bit stagnant.” She noted that in 2020, women in New Jersey earned on average 82 cents for every dollar that men earned. And the greatest gap was between Hispanic women and white men, with Hispanic women earning 49 cents for every dollar a white man earned.
