A rare wildfire in Ocean County that destroyed homes, buildings, and about 170 acres of land is now fully contained. According to the state Department of Environmental Protection Forest Fire Service, the fire was first reported in Lakewood Township on Sunday and the cause remains under investigation.

The fire was fueled by high winds and low humidity. One firefighter was hospitalized in critical condition and about 100 residents were forced to evacuate. Authorities are calling the fire “complex” and say that even though the fire is contained, firefighters will continue to  monitor hot spots.
