Driving into the core of Manhattan always took grit. Now, it could cost some New Jersey commuters an extra $3,000 a year, according to lawmakers.
New York City leaders are moving ahead with a long-delayed plan to charge drivers an extra toll as they enter the city, aimed at easing congestion and raising money for public transit systems; the extra toll would apply to vehicles entering the city via the George Washington Bridge, not via the Lincoln or Holland tunnels. But it won’t happen without a fight; the cross-Hudson battle lines have been drawn.
