The New York-New Jersey region ranked first for the nation’s worst traffic and time wasted in 2021, according to a study by CoPilot. The report’s data showed New Jersey drivers wasted about 132 extra hours sitting in traffic throughout the year. That’s the equivalent of more than three weeks and adds more than 30 minutes to daily commutes.

Another study, the INRIX Global Traffic Scorecard, ranked the New York metro area as number five in the world for worst traffic in 2022. London got the top spot on that list. GPS data collected for the study found drivers in the area lost 117 hours in traffic last year — a 15% jump from the previous year.
