Voters in New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District are currently without a voice in the House of Representatives following the death of Rep. Donald Payne Jr.

Gov. Phil Murphy on Friday ordered a special election to be held in the district. A special primary election will be held on July 16 and a special general election on Sept. 18. Candidates wishing to run in the special election must declare by the end of this week.

Micah Rasmussen, the director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University, spoke with NJ Spotlight News about how the special election will work, and who the early front-runners appear to be.
