NJTV News Exclusive: Gov. Christie Asked If This Storm Is An Opportunity To Show The Nation His Crisis Management Skills

As New Jersey prepares for a possible historic winter storm, Gov. Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency. Christie told NJTV News Correspondent David Cruz that he will continue to monitor the situation.

“I’m just going to go back home, monitor stuff from home. And then when the kids get home from school and Mary Pat gets back from New York, then we’ll go back to Drum [Drumthwacket], and we’ll stay down there,” said Christie.

As the storm continues to bring snow throughout the state, Christie said that there is some concern about the storm because no one is sure how much accumulation there will be. Christie also said that he is concerned about power outages, because it gets cold without power.

“So I mean those are the two biggest things that bother me,” Christie said. “But like I said in there, I feel like we know what we’re doing. Now, it depends what they deal us. If it’s even worse than what they’re saying, you know, you got problems and you got to deal with them. In the beginning when you do this, you don’t really know all the kind of ins and outs. You know winter six, I know these things now and so I feel comfortable that we’re prepared. The question is how bad is it going to be and how do you deal with it?”

On whether the storm presents an opportunity for Christie to show that he knows how to handle situations, such as the storm, Christie said that this storm will not have that effect.

“If Hurricane Sandy didn’t do it, then this won’t do it,” said Christie. “I mean, so that stuff doesn’t really enter my mind. I mean, listen, for better or for worse I’ve gotten good at this. You know just by repetition, I have nothing else. So you know, you don’t ever wish for anything like this but when it comes, I feel like I’m ready. Just as importantly, I feel that the people I have with me are ready and so we’ll deal with it but you never know how people are going to react to things.”
