The 2024 Summer Olympics will kick off in Paris at the end of this month, and New Jersey will be well-represented in a number of the Games’ events.
NJ Spotlight News spoke with NJ Advance Media sports columnist Steve Politi about some of the Jersey highlights.
“I think most of the focus for people on NBC certainly will be the big three sports of swimming, gymnastics and track and field,” he said. “And New Jersey will have major contributors in all those sports.”
Among them will be world-record-holding track stars like Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone from Dunellen and breakout gymnast phenomenon Hezly Rivera, the 16-year-old from Oradell who is the youngest Olympic athlete to compete in any sport this year. Also competing will be fencing wizards Mitchell Saron from Ridgewood and Elizabeth Tartakovsky from Livingston.
Politi also highlighted some other athletes who may not be on the main stage, but will be worth following as the international games play out.
