More than $22 million has been paid by NJ Transit to settle lawsuits stemming from a fatal Hoboken Terminal crash in 2016, according to a report from NJ Advance Media.
On Sept. 29, 2016, a Pascack Valley Line train entered the Hoboken Terminal preparing for a final stop but instead accelerated and slammed through a concrete barrier at the end of the track.
Debris from the crash killed a young mother, and 76 other people filed lawsuits. Forty-one people made claims that were settled out of court.
The crash led to more robust testing for NJ Transit train crews and an expedited process to install safer “positive train control” systems on rail lines.
