Gov. Phil Murphy and other state leaders toured flood-ravaged parts of New Jersey on Monday, stopping in sections of Middlesex County pounded by the remnants of Tropical Storm Henri. According to the National Weather Service, up to 10 inches of rain fell in some towns. In Helmetta, roughly 200 people were evacuated from their homes, and water rescues were performed as cars were overtaken by the rising waters.
The Murphy administration says it will seek aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for homeowners hit by the flooding.
“Flooding may continue with runoff and as the rivers drain over the next couple days, that risk of those flooded roadways remains a concern…,” said Col. Patrick Callahan of the New Jersey State Police.
