The New Jersey State Police are conducting an internal investigation into a standoff earlier this month between state troopers and Republican lawmakers at the State House. Gov. Phil Murphy said while the investigation is ongoing, there will be no further comment.
The State House showdown occurred on Dec. 2, when a group of GOP lawmakers refused to comply with the COVID-19 policy that requires them to show proof of vaccination or negative test results before entering. Troopers initially barred them from entering the Assembly chamber but eventually let them in. Republican lawmakers filed a lawsuit challenging the policy, but a judge dismissed their request to halt the rule while the case moves forward.
