NJ school funding formula needs to change, NJPP report urges

Report by think tank concludes state has failed to provide adequate funding to meet own educational requirements

A report released by New Jersey Policy Perspective Wednesday says the state has failed to provide adequate funding to meet its own rising educational requirements, by not fully funding the SFRA, or the School Funding Reform Act of 2008.

This is especially true in urban districts where many students are living in poverty, and where the spending gap from district to district is as high as $22,000 per student, according to the report, which suggests where the state needs to recalibrate funding to meet the higher standards and keep its schools competitive.
