Gov. Phil Murphy capped off Earth Week in Bayville on Friday, where he touted a new solar farm that is now generating clean energy. The facility, which was built on top of a former landfill, is capable of powering roughly 1,600 nearby homes.

Murphy said that, with the facility online, New Jersey for the first time has more than five gigawatts of solar power capacity — operating enough electricity to serve about 750,000 homes statewide.

Earlier this week, the Biden administration announced that New Jersey’s Board of Public Utilities will receive $156 million to expand community solar developments around the state — just one part of a $7 billion Solar For All program that is facilitating such efforts around America.
