State Sen. Jon Bramnick (R-Union) is the self-proclaimed “funniest lawyer in New Jersey,” but he maintains his run for governor is no joke.
The man who launched his campaign in a comedy club is taking on the task as the only Republican in the primary election not currying favor with President Donald Trump. Probably the leading anti-Trump Republican in the state, Bramnick said he’s instead counting on party voters to look beyond the race to Trump’s heart and the MAGA mindset, and to think of who is electable in the general election.
“If I can’t win the primary, then how do the Republicans win the general election?” he said recently. “It’s surely not gonna be based on denying the election of Joe Biden. It’s not gonna be based on denying January 6 activities. So let me tell you, if we have a candidate who does that or hides or dances from that, we will lose the general election.”
The longtime state legislator is seeking the GOP nomination against radio host Bill Spadea and two-time GOP candidate Jack Ciattarelli, both of who have sought favor — and the endorsement — of Trump.
Bramnick has said New Jersey’s Democratic Party-dominated state government has led to unchecked state spending and out-of-step policies on everything from the environment and immigration to taxes and housing.
Bramnick will join former state Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli and former radio personality Bill Spadea in NJ Spotlight News’ “Conversations with the Gubernatorial Candidates” this Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. on NJ PBS and the NJ Spotlight News YouTube channel. This is one of the mandatory public events for candidates receiving public financing.
