New Jersey lawmakers sort out details of the state’s budget as two days remain for the fiscal year 2024 spending plan to be approved. The proposed budget of more than $53 billion is the largest in state history. There’s been little dispute over budget items — it calls for increased state aid for schools and funding the public-worker pension fund among other items. Gov. Phil Murphy must approve the plan by midnight on Friday or risk a government shutdown.
While there is no indication of any last-minute disagreements, there’s a lot of legislation related to the budget — on tax credits and tax relief — that are all part of the process.
