NJ gets ready to upgrade water infrastructure with $169M in federal funds

The estimated overall cost of necessary upgrades to state's water infrastructure is $30 billion

New Jersey is getting a rush of federal funds to help clean up its drinking water, but that $169 million is just a drop in the bucket when it comes to all the contamination and infrastructural needs the state must contend with.

In an interview with NJ Spotlight News, Shawn LaTourette, commissioner of the state Department of Environmental Protection, said that the overall cost of necessary upgrades to New Jersey’s water infrastructure is estimated at $30 billion, with $2-$3 billion of that needed for lead-pipe remediation alone.
