While many Democrats in Congress have asked President Biden to push for an immediate cease-fire, Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-5th) said in an interview with NJ Spotlight News said he disagrees with that. Gottheimer said he stands by Israel in its ongoing siege of Gaza.

“They continue to actually fire rockets into Israel,” Gottheimer said, referring to Hamas. “So they’re continuing their attack. I don’t believe anybody would just sit back and say ‘do nothing.'”

Gottheimer joined a bipartisan group of 113 Congress members that sent a letter to Biden, urging the administration to increase military aid to Israel. The letter also called for further sanctions on Iran, and condemnation of Turkey and Qatar’s ties to Hamas.

The Israel-Hamas war has already led to thousands of Israeli and Palestinian deaths, as the threat of an Israeli ground invasion raises the specter of far more carnage.
