Although many college students are back on campus this year after COVID-19-related closures last year, 70% of New Jersey students say they’re dealing with more mental health and financial stress than ever before. The toll is greater on minority students, who lost jobs during the pandemic at higher rates than their white counterparts.

The findings come from a survey conducted by the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education, that surveyed some 15,500 college students from 60 higher-education institutions across the state. The office plans to use the data to determine how to better support these young people through increased student services.
