Unionwear, a manufacturing company based in Newark, was busy filling orders for hats for various presidential campaigns only a few weeks ago. Then the coronavirus hit. Mitch Cahn, the president of Unionwear, told Rhonda Schaffler how the factory was able to pivot almost instantly to making masks and other PPE using the materials that they had access to. They are now making plastic face shields and gowns at an astounding rate to try and fill the orders coming in from health care facilities and police and fire departments around the state.
