For the first time in state history, New Jersey has a legislative district map by bipartisan consensus. The 11-member New Jersey Legislative Apportionment Commission voted 9-2 on Friday to approve new boundaries for the 40 districts represented by lawmakers in the State House.
The new districts will be in place for the next 10 years, and will heavily influence the balance of political power in Trenton. But the new map has set up two potentially historic political clashes among Democrats.
