The crisis of homelessness in Atlantic City, particularly along the resort’s famed boardwalk, is the target of a new effort recently launched by city leaders. The Boardwalk Improvement Group — a coalition of city and state departments, plus the Atlantic City Casino Association — will work to connect homeless people to the resources they may need.

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small said the goal is to not only help those in need, but to also help local small businesses who say their customers sometimes avoid the boardwalk because of people sleeping and loitering in the area.
