The Internal Revenue Service is dealing with a massive backlog of tax returns due to COVID-19. Like most government agencies, the IRS went on lockdown for several months and pushed back the deadline for filing tax returns last year, creating the backlog. In an effort to reduce that wait time, Sen. Bob Menendez is urging the IRS to improve customer service during the tax filing season.
“No entity, public or private, touches more Americans than the Internal Revenue Service. That’s why we must have an IRS that works. As a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee that oversees the IRS, I’ve had long concerns about the operations and efficiencies for the agency,” said Menendez (D-NJ) at a press conference in Jersey City on Monday.
