Jury deliberations are set to begin on Friday in the federal corruption trial of U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and a pair of co-defendants after defense attorneys and prosecutors wrapped up closing arguments on Thursday.
Thursday’s proceedings began with the defense, which concluded the closing arguments it had begun on Wednesday focused on casting doubt on the government’s case against the senior New Jersey senator.
Prosecutors then gave a rebuttal to the defense’s closing arguments, pushing back forcefully against the claims of defense attorneys and sparking heated objections.
