Fears of an imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine escalated Friday with reports of Russian-backed groups in eastern Ukraine claiming to be attacked by Ukrainian forces, something Ukraine’s leaders call a false flag that Russia would use to justify an invasion. President Joe Biden was scheduled to meet with NATO allies Friday to discuss the international response to any Russian advancement.

Meanwhile, Congress is weighing how to respond to Russia’s aggression, with senior New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez (D) introducing legislation that would trigger tough economic sanctions should Russia invade Ukraine. Menendez also announced this week he will introduce legislation looking to strengthen U.S.-Colombia relations.
