Many don’t receive medications to treat opioid use disorder, research shows

Opioid use disorder has killed tens of thousands of New Jerseyans every year for the last several years. Recently, some medications have proven extremely effective in helping people who are addicted to recover and remain drug-free, but those medications are being prescribed only about a quarter of the time — meaning that life-saving treatment is missing those who need it most.

Dr. Hillary Samples, assistant professor at the Rutgers School of Public Health, discusses the gaps in treatment and needed changes.
