The Taliban is now in control of Afghanistan. In a stunning turn of events the extremist militant group has retaken the capital city, Kabul, two decades after U.S. troops drove the Taliban out of the city in the wake of the terror attacks of 9/11.

Panicked crowds could be seen flooding the tarmac early on Monday at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport, with video showing some of those desperate to escape Taliban rule clinging to the fuselage of a U.S. military aircraft as it prepared to take off. The Pentagon has now paused all flights, military or civilian, in and out of Kabul as President Biden sends in thousands of troops to secure the airport and evacuate U.S. citizens as the United States plans to withdraw military forces by next month.

We interview U.S. Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-7th), who has been imploring the Biden administration to evacuate Afghans who helped the U.S. military and others threatened by the Taliban, and protect those still on the ground.
