New Jersey is honoring the late Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver, who died last week at age 71. Oliver was serving as acting governor while Gov. Phil Murphy was out of the country on vacation.

Hundreds of mourners lined up Thursday to pay their respects to Oliver, who lies in state at the Capitol rotunda in Trenton.

“She was always empowering. And besides being a public servant she also had a humorous side to her, a compassionate side of her and whenever I talked to her she asked about my family and putting family first,” said Assemblywomen Shanique Speight (D-Essex).

On Friday, Oliver will lie in state at the Essex County Historic Courthouse in Newark. Funeral services will take place Saturday at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark.
