NJ Spotlight News anchor Joanna Gagis on Tuesday interviewed budget and finance writer John Reitmeyer about the financial state of New Jersey in the year ahead, with affordability remaining a top priority for state lawmakers to start the new year.

The two discussed how Gov. Phil Murphy and top Democrats in Trenton are trying to find new ways to continue and expand property-tax relief in coming state budget process. The Anchor program has sent rebates as high as $3,200 to some households in the state, tangible help where the average property tax bill is around $9,500.

But as Reitmeyer reported today in his story looking ahead into 2024, the state is also facing a more difficult fiscal picture as tax revenues are projected to decline, posing a challenge for future tax relief programs.
