In a push to keep New Jersey colleges affordable, state lawmakers are considering expanding a financial aid program to cover summer courses.
The focus is on state-funded Tuition Aid Grants, which are available to low-income students at public and private schools. Those grants currently only apply to classes during the fall and spring semesters. Expanding the program to include summer courses may allow students to finish degrees more quickly and save more money in the long run.
