Tammy Murphy has quickly racked up endorsements and support since announcing her bid for Sen. Bob Menendez’s seat last month, but one critic of her candidacy is bringing some early turbulence.

Katie Brennan, the former campaign volunteer whose sexual assault charges rocked the early days of Gov. Phil Murphy’s administration told NJ Spotlight News that Tammy Murphy’s response to the scandal shows that the first lady doesn’t deserve the support of New Jersey women.

“There are ways to be supportive of the administration and survivors, and I did not see that from the governor or Tammy Murphy,” said Brennan, who is now the executive director of the New York State Office of Resilient Homes and Communities.

Tammy Murphy pushed back, saying in a statement that she believes Brennan’s assault allegations and she worked to bring new training on harassment, inclusion and diversity to her husband’s reelection campaign.

“We vowed to never let a situation like that happen again on our campaigns or in our workplace,” Tammy Murphy said.
