Even when the state fully reopens, New Jersey’s court system is facing a major backlog of work. Judicial vacancies now number 74, according to New Jersey Courts; that’s an increase of 21 from the same time last year. With a serious shortage of superior court judges and as courtrooms remain closed, cases are piling up.
