A years-long fight between leaders in North Wildwood and state environmental regulators over the town’s unpermitted beach repairs continues to simmer. The two sides have been in dispute over the work.
Mayor Patrick Rosenello says the town has been forced to carry out the work to protect public safety while waiting for a more extensive project to be conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. But according to the state Department of Environmental Protection, the unauthorized work is environmentally destructive and illegal. Earlier this month, Rosenello and DEP Commissioner Shawn LaTourette exchanged letters outlining their concerns as the fight is being hashed out in the courts.
