Some Jersey City voters are weary and wary of elections, so when someone like Jim McGreevey, the former governor, gets the push from the party bosses outside of the city to run for mayor, it raises a few questions.
A few of the powerful Hudson County mayors say they want the former governor to run for mayor. Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea and Councilman James Solomon are both expected to run for mayor again in 2025 and have been on both sides of the political bosses over their tenures. As many as five or six candidates could emerge with viable chances at getting into a runoff.
“What the machine brings is definitely … money, which is important because you need to be able to pull in $2 million to keep the race flowing,” Joshua Rosario, a reporter at The Jersey Journal, said.”
“A lot of it doesn’t make any sense, right? The election’s two years away. The people of Jersey City are the ones who will decide the election and then suddenly you’ve got all these folks kind of telling folks in Jersey City what they should do,” said Bill O’Dea, Hudson County commissioner.
