“An attempted coup” is how the chairman of the House panel investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol described the committee’s findings. Laying the blame for the attack squarely on former President Donald Trump, adding that the violence was no accident, the panel’s vice-chair, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming), outlined the president’s involvement.
During the prime-time, televised hearing on Thursday the select committee investigating the 2021 attack described the events of Jan. 6 as “carnage at the Capitol,” presenting previously unseen testimony from former Attorney General Bill Barr, who testified that he told the former president claims of a rigged election were “B-S.” Another clip showed Ivanka Trump, daughter of the former president, telling the committee that she respected Barr’s view that there was no election fraud and she accepted what he said.
Cheney also stated Thursday, “I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain.”
