Workers say they’re already struggling with chronic staffing shortages at NJ’s long-term care facilities — and that a new federal COVID-19 vaccination mandate will push even more employees out the door. The new rules require every worker at facilities that accept Medicare or Medicaid to get a first COVID-19 shot by Dec. 6 and testing opt-outs are no longer allowed, although medical and religious exemptions are. Industry officials predict most workers will choose to get the jab and keep their jobs. But if staffing levels keep falling, it will mean changes at nursing homes.
