After days of rumblings, Shaheen Holloway confirmed Wednesday night that he will take over as coach of the Seton Hall University men’s basketball team. Holloway has just led the Saint Peter’s University team to a historic run in the NCAA championship, all the way to the Elite Eight round — only ending Sunday in defeat to the University of North Carolina team.

Holloway has a long history as both a basketball player and coach with the Seton Hall Pirates, and was tagged by outgoing head coach Kevin Willard to take over as Willard has moved to the University of Maryland.

Holloway said of the move from Jersey City-based Saint Peter’s to Seton Hall in South Orange, “It’s bittersweet, right? Because I built something over there; we had a good team. We’re going have a good team next year. But this is home. The Big East is home, it’s something I’ve always wanted. The opportunity came and I couldn’t turn it down.”
