Inflation forces NJ small businesses to face ‘difficult and interesting times’

Cost pressures are ‘across the board,’ says one business owner

The focus has been on sky-high inflation and its impact on all of us since the consumer price index hit a record 9.1% in June. New Jersey’s small businesses are also struggling with rising costs, including businesses that you might not expect.

Scott Chambers, the owner of Zippy’s Bikes in Wildwood, says that his business is affected by cost pressures “everywhere across the board” — in the cost of goods, shipping and receiving, and payroll.

“It’s diffcult and interesting times,” he said. “Overhead has drastically increased, the possibility of expanding the business [and] product lines basically is either put on hold because we don’t know what’s going to happen or considering downsizing…”
