Members of Congress and challengers are fanning out across the state, taking their campaign pitches to the voters with less than a month to go before the midterm elections. The hottest race in New Jersey is in the 7th District, between two-term incumbent Rep. Tom Malinowski and Republican Tom Kean Jr., who has faced scrutiny for declining media interview requests and giving little notice of any public appearances.

It may come as no surprise, then, that one of the hottest tickets in town this week is a debate Thursday morning between the two candidates, the only time they are planned to debate in person this election cycle. Sponsored by the Gateway Regional Chamber of Commerce, the ticketed event, which is sold out, will focus on the economy and inflation.
