A funding bill passed both houses of Congress last Thursday, just before the federal government would have had to shut down, but negotiations over an infrastructure bill continued on Friday. President Joe Biden headed to Capitol Hill to meet with House Democrats Friday afternoon as they try to strike a compromise following a bitter feud between liberal and moderate members of the party that has resulted in a stalemate over Biden’s domestic agenda. Progressives are holding firm against passing a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill unless there’s movement on a $3.5  trillion social spending and climate change package.
