Hoboken City Council President Jen Giattino died suddenly at 52 years old, leaving the community and her family in disbelief.

Giattino was first elected in 2011 on then Mayor Dawn Zimmer’s ticket. She has been reelected ever since, aside from a year-break when she attempted a bid for the mayor’s seat in 2017.

“Jen’s dedication to our community will never be forgotten,” said Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla. “Her kindness, humility and quiet determination made her a cherished figure whose impact will be felt for generations to come. There are no words to describe the sense of loss we are all feeling”

According to the Hudson County View, Giattino had a stellar record for responding to constituents and ran impressive grassroots campaigns. In a statement, husband Joe Giattino said, “She was not only an incredible mother but also a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about this community.”

An outpouring of condolences have come from far and wide to pay tribute to Giattino. From Hudson County Executive Craig Guy, to many other local, state and federal leaders.

“A loving wife, mother of three, and devoted council member who loved her community, Jen was in public service for all the right reasons,” said Gov. Phil Murphy.
