“I think it’s super important to now get the booster because we’re seeing it every day,” said Corinne Scarpa, a health care worker who was fully vaccinated months ago but who wants to boost her immunity with a third COVID-19 shot as the delta variant of the coronavirus is still surging.
Some health care workers are reportedly “jumping the line” to protect themselves with a third dose of the vaccine, frustrated by the ongoing political and scientific debates over who should be eligible for boosters. More than 71,000 extra doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines have been administered in New Jersey, but it’s tough to tell who’s taking them because no one has to prove eligibility. The Centers for Disease Control and Protection recommends a third dose for a small group of medically-compromised people. Federal officials are slated to offer guidance on the issue later this month.
