The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey along with Gov. Phil Murphy and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul Thursday announced a proposal to cut fares in half for PATH riders with disabilities.
The reduced fares would match the current reduced fares available for senior riders. If the program is approved, riders could apply in spring 2025 and the program would be launched next summer.
“Today’s proposed PATH fare reduction would build on our work to ensure our public transportation infrastructure is inclusive and reliable for all commuters,” Murphy said in a news release.
It would be the first time reduced PATH fares are available to people with disabilities. They would have two payment methods — a physical TAPP card issued by PATH or a mobile wallet using a contactless credit and debit card linked to a TAPP transit account.
