Future Forecasts Show Cold Weather Remaining With Potential For More Snow

The second winter storm within a week brought snow and ice to New Jersey, Meteorologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Mount Holly Gary Szatkowski told NJTV News Managing Editor Mike Schneider.

“We saw a storm that came through that really brought a lot of ice with it,” said Szatkowski. “When I say that, I’m talking about sleet and also freezing rain — the stuff that freezes on contact. Every storm usually brings a potential where you have snow further inland and maybe some sleet, ice then rain.”

Parts of the state were hit with freezing rain, which caused power outages and made travel difficult. According to Szatkowski, northern parts of the state received between eight and 10 inches of snow, while the shore saw more rain.

The potential for another storm to hit New Jersey is on the way for the weekend. On computer models, the forecast for the storm keeps changing and Szatkowski says that it’s not a storm to worry a lot about.

Following the weekend, Szatkowski says there is potential for another storm or two. The snow forecast could change, but Szatkowski said that the cold weather will remain.

“We’re in this pattern that’s not changing and the one thing I can speak with more confidence on is cold,” Szatkowski said.
