Family, friends and community members said their final goodbyes this weekend to Najee Seabrooks, the violence intervention activist who was shot and killed by Paterson police during a mental health crisis earlier this month. Seabrooks was a member of the Paterson Healing Collective, a group trained in de-escalation tactics that they say could have saved Seabrooks’ life, if they hadn’t been blocked by police. “Justice for Najee” chants were heard as his coffin was carried outside the funeral home on Saturday.

Late last week, the state attorney general’s office released 911 calls and footage from police body-worn cameras, and said the office is investigating the shooting.
