New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin is investigating a fatal shooting involving law enforcement over the weekend in Jersey City. A 2019 law requires the attorney general’s office to investigate the death of anyone during an interaction with police during official duties.

Officials from the U.S. Marshals Service and Fugitive Task Force on Saturday night were assisting the Orlando Florida Police Department to execute an arrest warrant for a suspect wanted for murder and attempted murder; the suspect was shot. He had fled first to Brooklyn, then Jersey City, where he was located near Jefferson Avenue in The Heights neighborhood. After the shooting, the suspect was taken to Jersey City Medical Center where he died. The suspect’s identity has not been released as the investigation is ongoing.
