Firefighters continued to battle a wildfire in Passaic County on Wednesday, the first significant blaze in the state in several weeks.
The Buckabear Wildfire broke out in the area of Clinton Road in West Milford on Tuesday evening, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. As of Wednesday afternoon, it had spread to 120 acres and was 30% contained.
No buildings are under threat and no one has been forced to evacuate.
After constructing containment lines, fire crews were continuing to back-burn throughout Wednesday, leading local officials to warn of continued smoky conditions in the area. A handful of local roads are closed until further notice.
West Milford Mayor Michele Dale is warning residents to stay clear of active burn areas and to follow road signs or directions from police.
State officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
