NJ Notables featured guest is Tom Bentey who screenwrote and directed At the Jersey Shore.

In the past few years, the Shore aquired a notoriety, due in large part to MTV’s Jersey Shore.

Bentey says that while his film features an element of the raucousness that is often feature on the reality television series, he says that the film aims to show the beauty of the area as well.

In the film, Bentey plays the main character, a journalist who goes down the shore and writes around various characters. Throughout his experiences, he sees that there is more to the shore than “clubs, drugs and stereotypes.”

Shot on location at many of the same clubs as seen on MTV’s Jersey Shore, Bentey drew inspiration from his own life, particularly when he turned 21.

“I really wanted to meet a girl on the Jersey shore clubs so I went out pretty much every night”

While the film’s characters are based, to some extent, on himself, friends and family member, he says a lot of people will be able to relate to the theme of the film. “It’s really a story about relationships, about trying to hold onto that summer fling when it all comes crashing down on Labor Day”

Financing a film can be a challenge, but Bentey, who used his own money, received financial support from family as well as producer-investor.

The film can be seen online through iTunes and Amazon and cable video on demand.

At the Jersey Shore premiered and won the Viewers’ Pick award at last year’s film festival in Sonoma, Calif., and was also screened at the recent Montclair Film Festival.
