Check your mailbox for the new — and newly designed — mail-in ballots for the upcoming June primary election.
The ballots started going out on Monday, and this year, county clerks were on deadline to create multiple versions depending on a voter’s party affiliation. For Democrats, they are the first ballots since a federal judge eliminated the use of the so-called “county-line” ballot design for the party’s nominating process. Instead, the candidates will be listed randomly.
“It was a scramble,” said Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi of the new ballots. “We didn’t know if the ballot machines would be able to do it. And, they didn’t know if they could do it.”
