Economists call on federal government to provide additional COVID-19 relief

New Jersey’s looking to Washington D.C. again for financial help to recover from the COVID-19 recession. And so is a group of more than 150 economists, including Ben Bernanke, the former Federal Reserve Chairman who sits on Gov. Phil Murphy’s Restart and Recovery Commission. The group has signed a letter calling on Congress to pass another major economic recovery package to avert what they are calling “disastrous budget shortfalls.”

Economics professor Janet Currie of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University also signed the letter. She co-directs the Program on Families and Children at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Currie joins Correspondent Michael Hill to share her insight.
