More than 10,000 children between the ages of five and 11 in New Jersey have received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, according to the state Department of Health. Still, many parents are on the fence over vaccinating children, absent long-term vaccine data.
One thing about which evidence is accumulating is the long-term impact of COVID-19 on some children. Hackensack Meridian Health has set up a pediatric COVID-19 care center to help kids suffering from long-term symptoms. “The reason to vaccinate is because we don’t have a prediction as to who will have long COVID and who won’t. Long COVID can be really a bad effect on children,” said Dr. Katharine Clouser, pediatric hospitalist and co-director of the Children’s Health Pediatric COVID-19 Recovery Center.
